J. R. Miller (Jim Miller) was born and raised in the blue-collar suburbs of Detroit. After a career designing and copywriting for a large advertising agency in metro Detroit, he relocated to Florida, where he earned his MFA in Creative Writing from the University of South Florida. Tired of the Florida sun, he moved to Virginia for a few years before heading to the UK. He is the author of Nobody’s Looking (ELJ Editions). His short stories and nonfiction have also appeared in Portland Review, The Good Men Project, Prime Number, Palooka, and others. He currently writes, sends out resumes for his dream job, makes cool stuff, and serves as the production editor for Moonlit Getaway. This was an interesting and deeply philosophical read. At times I found it funny and I enjoyed the cultural references (esp. to Detroit). At other times the book was quite introspective and dragged you down to areas one tends to not like thinking abo ...more

“It is a high honor for a woman to be chosen from among all womankind to be the wife of a good and true man.”
J.R. Miller

“Many of us find life hard and full of pain. We cannot avoid these things; but we should not allow the harsh experiences to deaden our sensibilities, or make us stoical or sour. The true problem of living is to keep our hearts sweet and gentle in the hardest conditions and experiences.”
J.R. Miller

“Then the marriage relation is in dissoluble. The two become in the fullest, truest sense one... Yet the scriptures are very explicit in their teachings - that the tie once form does indissoluble. There is one crime, said the pure and holy Jesus, which, committed by either, leaves the guilty one as dead, the other free. But besides this, the teaching of Christ recognizes no other lawful sundering of the marriage tie.”
J.R. Miller, The Wedded Life
