Beautiful people,
Once I had it all. I was a mother, a wife and a career woman- the holy trinity of women in the 21st century. I was living the dream.
But at the moment of truth—the one in which we need to follow our intuition and values not social norms— I traded my career for my family, and followed my husband to the United States.
I thought it was a temporary trade off. I was a highly-skilled professional, and I assumed that before long, I would receive a work visa and reignite my career. But I was wrong.
During my grueling immigration process, I learned that when it comes to high-skilled immigrants, America disregards the option of ‘having it all’. I wasn’t asked to trade off, but I had to choose between my career and my family.
My shiny new article for Huffington Post tells this story.
XO,
Sharon
