My post
Beautiful People,
On April 19th, Target released a statement related to the bathroom legislation, which declared: “Inclusivity is a core belief at Target... We believe that everyone—every team member, every guest, and every community —deserves to be protected from discrimination, and treated equally.” The company invited people to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity, not the gender assigned to them at birth.
Not before long, the American Family Association, a conservative Christian activist group, started a petition, which quickly collected more than a million signatures from people pledging to boycott Target over its transgender bathroom policy.
The group explained that “The chief concern for the American Family Association is predators who will take advantage.” To prove its point, the group has started sending men into women’s restrooms in order to test the policy, and found that indeed “there is absolutely no barrier.”
IF THERE EVER WAS A TIME TO FEAR GOING TO THE BATHROOM AND FINDING A PREDATOR, IT WOULD BE NOW. Not the transgender, but the dude sent by the disturbing group.
The AFA does everything but represent the American Family.
The American families I know and love teach their children principles such as inclusivity, gender equality, and accepting and respecting the differences between human beings.
Those families reject discrimination and teach facts, shake off stereotypes and ignorance and promote tolerance and open-mindedness.
They pass down values that lead to a healthier society, in which people can live and let live without the fear of being scrutinized and judged by their choices.
No matter how loud and aggressive a voice might be, your inner voice should suppress the noise. Follow your values and beliefs, put yourself just for a moment in someone's shoes, be kind and caring and push those bullies away.
XO,
Sharon
