In March, The Library of Congress has decided to use the term “noncitizens” in place of “aliens” in subject headings and to replace “illegal alien” with “noncitizen” and “unauthorized immigration.” But the House appropriations committee made a provision requiring the Library of Congress to use the terms “aliens” and “illegal aliens” in its subject headings.

On Monday, a few Congressional Caucuses sent a letter to the House appropriations committee pressing it to remove the inappropriate provision.

Library of Congress, the official residence of the English language, decided to change the term because it has “taken on a pejorative tone”. “Illegal alien” is considered offensive by many immigrants and advocates because of its negative connotation.

When ‘illegals’ is being used as a noun, it implies that a human being is illegal. Furthermore, the term is being used by right-wing opponents and conservatives as a way to dehumanizing undocumented, noncitizens or unauthorized immigrants.

Many media outlets like the Associated Press, journalists, cities and states have decided to no longer use the term.

I am not a fan of Political Correctness. The original intent of political correctness was to respect other people’s feelings by not using a language that could offend them. That is a noble idea.

However, over the years, political correctness gone wild, and today instead of calling things the way they are, people are avoiding them all together.

In this case, I most certainly sided with the Library of Congress, because PEOPLE MAY BE UNLAWFUL YET RIGHTFUL. Additionally, the unauthorized youth who were brought to this country as children didn’t do anything to justify calling them “Illegals”.

The fact that America has never accepted responsibility or took ownership of the problem and established their status, takes away America’s right to call them “illegals”.

See, that was an example of how Political Correctness should be used.
