Summer Nights

Summer Nights©

As summer nights come in thick and dark
the darkened sky lights up
to the twinkling stars above
The heavy laden air awakens
deep thoughts of mysterious air
that stirs two old lovers
walking slowly hand in hand
beside the lake which mirrors
the darkened skies above
The Mists begin to rise
above the lake so deep
and before their weary eyes
The moon softly shimmers
upon the silken waters of the lake
Waves gently lapping against
the bared toes of the two
As two lovers slowly sit side by side
upon the dampened chairs
umbrellared, ice cold drinks held within
their gnarled, and clasping hands
reminiscing on thoughts that are left
so far behind
As skies lightens to the summer nights beyond
A gentle breeze whips up
and ruffles lace curtains
that are held within their gaze
A ramshakled shack stands before their backs,
with fading eyes and trembling hands
of wanderings of not so long, long ago
with creaking boards, and cries of bats
and distant thoughts of summer nights
With long forgotten thoughts of yesteryear
as two old people ….. smiling gently
remembering
on their thoughts of their lost
but not forgotten
Summer nights
