My post

Beautiful People,

My Monday hero is Vivienne Tam, a fashion designer who was born Guangdong, China in 1958 and immigrated to the United Sates at the age of 23.

When Tam was three years old her family moved to Hong Kong. From an early age she watched her mother making clothes for the family and fell in love with fashion. By the age of 8, she was making her own clothing and dressing herself and her siblings.

After receiving her degree in fashion design from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Vivienne moved to London, but in 1981 she relocated to New York City and established her company, East Wind Code. Ten years later, before her first runway show at New York Fashion Week, she changed the company’s name to "Vivienne Tam".

Tam's fashion brand is inspired by Chinese culture, design and modern fashion, and East-West fusion.

When asked backstage about the inspiration behind her 2016 collection, Vivienne said: “I’m a designer, but really, it’s about sharing the culture of the world, bringing cultural harmony.”

There are many ways that people can influence behavior, contribute to a social discussion and inspire change. Tam influences change through fashion by showing that cultural coexistence is not only possible but also successful.

Vivienne Tam, you are such an inspiration to me!

XO,
Sharon
