The deadliest mass shooting in Orlando has provoked Donald Trump to repeat his position regarding immigration that would temporarily ban Muslims entering the United States. He said: "We have a dysfunctional immigration system which does not permit us to know who we let into our country, and it does not permit us to protect our citizens."
Those of you who are unfamiliar with the extent to which the immigration system is dysfunctional, including Donald Trump, should know:
1. The focus on refugee and asylum immigration of Muslims is demagogic at best. There are at least 3 other immigration categories on which ANYONE can enter the U.S. whether they are Muslims, Mexicans or belong to any other group that Trump has issues with.
The Diversity Immigrant Visa program aka The DV lottery makes available 50,000 permanent resident visas annually to the residents of the world, wherever and whoever they are.
Family-based immigration allows immigration of close and distant family members including spouses, minor children, and unmarried sons and daughters.
American Immigration Council mentioned that “By law, the number of family-based visas allocated through the preference system may not be lower than 226,000 consequently, the total number of family-based visas often exceeds 480,000.”
Each year, hundreds of thousands of people immigrate legally the United States. WE DON"T WHO THEY ARE.
Therefore, terrorist who wants to enter the US legally can find many ways to do that. In fact, entering to or staying in the United States illegally would be easier.
2. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is a component of the United States Department of Homeland Security that is responsible to secure the nation from threats. However, DHS is not the only national security and law enforcement agency that is responsible to protect the citizens of the United States.
If anything, Trump should ask why the Orlando radical Islam terrorist who was twice scrutinized by F.B.I. and was on a terrorist watch list from 2013 to 2014 was allowed to purchase weapon.
Never accept propaganda, know the facts, and then take a stand.
