Best of 2016... that I read...

Wow. I started off the year with a goal to read 52 books. I smashed that, ending with a 100. Here were my favorite books that I read for the first time in 2016 (regardless of publication date).

1. Speaks the Nightbird - Robert McCammon

1. Sunblind - Michael McBride (tied for #1)

3. Ready Player One - Ernest Cline

4. The Imago Sequence - Laird Barron

5. Die Dog or Eat the Hatchet - Adam Howe

6. Amazonia - James Rollins

7. A Study in Scarlet - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

8. Snowblind - Michael McBride

9. All Smoke Rises - Mark Matthews

10. The Adventure of the Five Orange Pips (and various other Holmes' stories - I read them all in 2016)

10. Queen of Bedlam (tie) - Robert McCammon

Best Graphic Novels

1. The Walking Dead compendiums, by Robert Kirkman and Mastema, by Curtis Lawson

I did read some fan favorites last year as well, including the remainder of The Dark Tower series, The Fold, Dark Matter, The Elementals, and The Necronomicon, all of which were solid 4 stars for me, maybe even 4.5, but failed to make me squirm, feel, laugh, or shriek like the others.

Alas, Wool was not for me at all. It certainly has redeeming qualities and I can see why so many like it, but it just isn't my thing.

So there you have it. On to 2017, and McCammon's Mister Slaughter is already going to be tough to beat at year end!
