Reading this I immediately thought of a guy named Scott Kalechstein who wrote a takeoff on that Three Dog Night song "An Old Fashioned Love Song." He'd switch back & forth between an achingly heartfelt verse of another song such as "I can't liiiive, if livin' is without you. I can't give--" and then switch to singing "Just another co-dependent love song."

agree with "stormy weather"..but prefer Lena Horne's version. Roy Orbison's "crying", "diamonds and rust" by Joan Baez. "memory" from Cats...like Judy Collins version. "You were always on my Mind" by Willie Nelson.

"Look Away" by Chicago is much along those lines, and is my favourite song by them. And my ultimate torch song is "Nothing Compares 2 U" by Sinead O'Connor.Great list!

Thanks for your suggestions. Chicago is a great group. Love their brass section. I'm not as familiar with Sinead O'Connor.

Interesting list. That Fifth Dimension song is a great one. Sinatra is always a good listen. Thanks, sir.
@Maggie: Speaking of ole Possum, "She Thinks I Still Care." Someone said it's so sad it'll make your roof leak. That's about right.
"Paying For The Days Of Wine And Roses" has lots of regretful tone to it. I like your GJ two titles.
