Speed Bump
My neighborhood has speed bumps. The appropriate definition of them is 'speed control' - actually, that's the summarized version. It's 12:11AM, my eye sockets are sore and tired from staring at this computer screen for the last six or so hours, I need to get some sleep, but just as I am about to force myself to put away the computer, turn out the lights, and fall asleep to the Golden Girls on Hallmark, I remember a certain goal I haven't met, and then the idea/thought jumps in my brain: Speed Bumps.
Life has speed bumps and maybe this is why I haven't even started the book I should have finished by now with a Blog Review to follow.
I'm supposed to have finished my Re-Read Challenge Book: The Selection by Kiera Cass yet I haven't even read the first page. So many speed bumps have gotten in the way, slowing me down, holding me back, from this goal I was so ready to dive head-first into.
But not every pool has the capacity for divers. Some pools are for relays, others for small children. And now I'm talking about pools... I thought I was on something with speed bumps?
Oh, yes...
Between the years 2015-2016 I gained a considerable amount of weight because of a medication I needed for pain in my neck. Now, probably for my fifth attempt (I'm too tired to count) I am in the process of losing the weight gained, and more.
Granted, I just started this latest diet Monday, March 13th (under doctor supervision) and it has created a major speed bump.
No fruits, no added sugar, fat-free, no grains, light cream for my coffee, and four servings of veggies a day (eek!) for two weeks.
Figuring out meals is like figuring out math - and I had a tutor in fifth grade, middle school, and every year in high school except my senior year—and that's because I didn't take pre-calc!
I already ate chocolate. A full snickers bar, two mini milkways, and about four mini cookies last, well, Monday night. And I'm always hungry.
That's part of the process, I'm told. I can eat all the sugar free jello and sugar free popsicles I want--but I don't want them lol. I want real food, fried food, cake, brownies, a cookie -- I searched Pinterest for about an hour looking at recipes, dreaming of when I can make these delicious-looking Nutella Blonde Brownies... *mouth watering*
And now I'm ranting.... ahh, so I'm sorry to my Blog readers that I haven't met my goal of reading a book a week (remember my story about more than a book? Ha!).
I may start Wednesday but no promise for that with my schedule. However, the definite plan is to read this Friday and get a review done by Sunday.
We will see.
As for the diet? Hmm... I'm ready for some grains at least. (And cookies!)
Oh, and those speed bumps? Sure, they make you slow down but it's for our own good. It forces us to see what's really in front of us, what we may have missed or been ignoring lately. In the words of a movie quote I just watched, "We'd all like to get there yesterday," (okay not exact wording but you get the gist) we all want to get there already, finish that deadline, lose that ten (or thirty) pounds, meet that great guy, deliver that baby, receive a promotion, etc - but the bestselling books and movies are the best because they tell a story! We wouldn't pay ten bucks to just hear a synopsis, and what about the previews, even they give a glimpse of what is come.
I guess my point is, and I don't really know how it all accumulated to this:
Memories have bullet points, life has blueprints. It's easy for all of us to see the finished house, but let's not forget how it was built.
Goodnight and God Bless,
Sydney
