I'm Sorry, What?!
Man Candy by Melanie HarlowMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
I'm sorry, what?!
Yep, that was pretty much the phrase banging around my noggin' for the entirety of this book. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. Not at all. I'm just, I dunno, winded.
You see, there's a lot of sex in this novel. I'm not even kidding. Now, if Melanie Harlow confused her reverse cowgirl with her wheelbarrow that would have been quite the conundrum. I would have put this bad boy aside, written it off as a poorly conceived Kristen Ashley spin off and happily eaten a bucket of m&m's. However, she really knows her stuff, and holy smokes, can she write it.
But that's not the only reason for my double take. What really surprised me was the role reversal prevalent throughout. After all, how many novels have you read where the hero is too scared to love and instead hides his feelings behind a mask of polished reserve and an Armani suit. I know, right? Too many to count. That's why it was so refreshing to meet an emotionally available hero intent on teaching the heroine to trust in love. It sounds sappy when I write it, but damn, it was one hell of a ride reading it.
There were also some hil-freakin-arious moments in this novel too. And I'm talking, snorting your drink out of your nose kind of stuff. The friendships were honest and real, the dialogue fast paced and engaging; it's safe to say I loved losing myself amidst the pages. Oh, and just a heads up, you'll never think of the game, Chicken in the same way again. Have no idea what I'm talking about?
You will.
