Lumberjanes
So far, I’ve only read Vol 1: Beware The Kitten Holy, but I am super excited to continue this comic book series. Honestly, it looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun.
Badass girls at a summer camp but there’s also magic? Yes please!
Lumberjanes by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Brooke A. Allen and Noelle Stevenson follows 5 young girls and their adventures at a scout camp. It’s official name is Miss Qiunzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet’s Camp for Hardcore Lady Types.
Clearly, there was a parent who hated their child immensely for ever even considering naming their child that.
Anyway, these five campers, Jo, April, Mal, Molly, and Ripley, are cabin mates who 1) cause major problems for their cabin scout leader Jen. They do this by basically ignoring the rules and doing whatever they want. And that’s how these girls keep stumbling into the unknown.
Like I said, I’ve only read volume 1, so I’ve only seen a small portion of their adventure, but it looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun.
Though it hasn’t been confirmed in volume 1, I’ve discovered that Jo, the oldest of the five girls and the leader of the group, is a transgender female. It’s also hinted at (and later confirmed in later comics) that Mal (who looked like a punk-rocker) and Molly (the blonde one) are in a romantic relationship.
Anyway, if you’re into comics with crazy colourful art, badass females, and quirky characters, I would definitely recommend this story!
