Let’s get personal …

I recently held a poll on my Facebook Author page. Being new, I was genuinely curious about what others wanted on Author pages. Did they want book-related posts only?

In a way, it felt like – if I only posted about my writing, and when the book was coming out, followed by “Hey guys, buy my book.” It just felt like I was shoving it down peoples throats, and I did not want to be like that. It felt wrong. But, I wasn’t sure if people cared to know about my day to day hustle as a writer. Who cares how a stranger takes their coffee? Right?

Wrong, or mostly wrong.

According to the poll I put out, people do want to know the behind the scenes stuff.

They want to know how you come up with your stories, and what music list you used during creation.

I should have known the answer to this, even before the poll. I know that I enjoy hearing about my favorite writer’s lives, I love getting an inside look. It makes me feel connected to them. Why on earth, did I think it would be different for me? Or for any of you other writers out there.

Whether you are just starting out, or have been doing this for years, your readers want to know you as well as fall in love with the characters you create. So while you are throwing out sneak peeks, and books available by, don’t forget to slip in a little you!
