Bad Timing

Ah summer--weather is nice, but so busy--camping, trips with family, and my daughter's wedding are on my list this season. Sounds fun, right? Not if you're an introvert like me. A whirlwind of activities and too much socializing leaves me feeling drained and depleted and longing to just sneak away someplace where I can be alone and read (or write) a book.

Part of the appeal of living in the Pacific Northwest for a lot of writers is the rainy, dreary weather--a perfect time for staying in, drinking coffee, and writing. But because summers here are gorgeous, reluctantly we give in to the persistent people around us who urge us to get out and enjoy the sun and have some fun.

I'll do it, I guess, but only because I know that October and rain hitting my window, a good book and a hazelnut latte are waiting for me just around the corner.
