The Yesterday Girl

My second novel, "The Yesterday Girl" (sequel to "The Time Tourists,") has been published.

Imogen Oliver discovers she can enter a still photograph and travel back to the time depicted in the picture. The universe fills in all the details, such as period clothing, etc., but there are rules that she must learn, sometimes the hard way. The story follows her adventures and mishaps as a private investigator trying to find people and lost things while navigating her own complicated life.

The first book is available in both print and Kindle, so if you'd like to sample it first, it has the LOOK INSIDE feature to see if it piques your interest at all. https://amzn.to/3iGcf3r

Both books are availiable on Amazon and through other retail outlets, as well as directly from the publisher at gladeyepress.com

New Book Review

The Time Tourists received another great review on Amazon:

4.0 out of 5 stars Imaginative Ideas and Compelling Characters

I think the thing that struck me most about Time Tourists is the premise for time travel — it’s not a sci-fi approach but more fantasy oriented and rooted in the one method of time travel that we all possess: photography. The characters that can time travel do so by psychically transporting themselves into the photographs in very much the same way we all look at a photo and transport ourselves to that moment by closing our eyes in memories. In that way the act of travel feel ultra relatable.

Speaking of relatable, Nelson’s characters are well constructed and feel like regular people, rather than archetypes. The hero, Imogen, is an actual person with foibles and flaws (as well as fantastic abilities) and the villain is just as three dimensional. They are products of their experience and act accordingly.

Add a mystery/adventure storyline and you have yourself a fun little read that tackles familiar territory in a whole new way!

Bad Timing

Ah summer--weather is nice, but so busy--camping, trips with family, and my daughter's wedding are on my list this season. Sounds fun, right? Not if you're an introvert like me. A whirlwind of activities and too much socializing leaves me feeling drained and depleted and longing to just sneak away someplace where I can be alone and read (or write) a book.

Part of the appeal of living in the Pacific Northwest for a lot of writers is the rainy, dreary weather--a perfect time for staying in, drinking coffee, and writing. But because summers here are gorgeous, reluctantly we give in to the persistent people around us who urge us to get out and enjoy the sun and have some fun.

I'll do it, I guess, but only because I know that October and rain hitting my window, a good book and a hazelnut latte are waiting for me just around the corner.

Time to get busy

To celebrate our 23rd anniversary, my husband and I are planning a working trip up the Oregon coast. We'll be stopping in at bookstores along the way to meet store owners and build awareness for The Time Tourists.

We'll also be staying someplace beachy and inspirational so I can begin mapping out the next book in the Dead Relatives, Inc. series.

Bad Timing

Getting ready to fly to my hometown next week for a book signing at Barnes & Noble and what do I do? Trip on a rug and dislocate my shoulder, that's what! Walking down the hallway to the bathroom Wednesday night I tripped on the rug runner and went down hard. The ambulance came and they put it back in its socket in the er. So the last couple of days I've been sore all over--not just my shoulder.

Anyway, still taking my trip and crossing fingers that I can sign books. Of course, it was my right shoulder, so my arm is in a sling. If there is a silver lining, I guess it would be that if everything went smoothly all the time, I'd have nothing to write about.
