Building a World, One Career Mom At A Time

I left an exciting meeting yesterday with a recording and some notes and I felt it for the first time.

I am a real career mom.

Even though I worked in corporate America for almost two decades and created this blog back then as a nine-to-fiver with a gig writing, I never felt I was working a career. It just was not what I wanted. It was my day job.

I am a writer, have been my entire life, but writing wasn’t always my business. It just felt like a distant dream that I’d be lucky if one day could come true.

Georgia O’Keefe says, “To create one’s own world takes courage.” So, I have made it my business and my career.

I was uplifted yesterday as I sat at a table surrounded by inspirational and powerful people whose stories you are going to know one day and I knew why I left my real job, my safety net. For the first time, I’m crossing that bridge and not letting the unknown or fear hold me back. I’m building my own world and surrounding myself with the people who inspire and lift others up. And I get to be a part of it.

One of my best friends, Jacqueline Gabriela, inspired this post as I watched her, a full-time mom, singer, musician and business owner, bring people together for a common goal to give a better perspective to the next generation, promote their creativity, and uniqueness. Her goal is to help kids build enriched lives through music, art, and education. Getting to watching others like her grow and build their world around their dreams and passions, and taking part in the desire for helping others succeed, is a humbling experience.

I’m looking forward to bringing everyone along for the ride!
