*Book #3 of ‘The Red Order’ series. Can be read as a standalone, but to understand the full storyline consider beginning the journey with Feyness*
Faith is but a mask. Sin is what lies beneath.
My Thoughts:
I have been anxiously awaiting the third installment of The Red Order Series for what seems like forever. E.S. Carter has a way of making the dark world of the series something you can’t help but fall for. Whether it’s the mesmerizing way she strings together the most elegant sentences, her unforgettable characters, or the ever twisting and turning plotline, her stories capture the hearts of her readers— including mine. Every time I go into her books, I think to myself, I bet I know what’s coming. Every time I am so completely wrong. So let’s dive in.
Luke
Oh, Luke you wonderful dark and twisted human being. I went into this book a little more hesitant, because I’m going to be real, I hated Luke. Like, full blown he’s-a-monster-and-I-don’t-want-anything-to-do-with-him-hate. But guys, he kind of wormed his gross little way into my weirdly empathetic heart. He’s not the monster I really saw him as. Sure, he still is a monster. Like, don’t get me wrong. He’s a baddie if you ever read one, but you kinda dig it in some weird, I-can’t-believe-I’m-admitting-this-way. If you’ve read the other three books, you’ll get what I mean. And by the way, you should probably read the other books. Not necessarily for chronological reasons, but because they’re the best dark romance series books I have ever read, but I digress.
Luke is still a monster.
But he becomes a little more human in Faithless.
I still hate the guy.
Just less.
James
Okay, this guy. Mr. Nice Guy, Mr. Okay-Maybe-He’s-Not-So-Mr.-Nice-Guy, Mr.-He’s-Definitely-Not-As-Nice-As-I-Thought-But-He’s-A-Saint-Next-To-Luke-Guy
Ocean.
Father.
Lover.
Savior.
James was everything that we needed when, on the one hand we have Luke. He’s a perfect balance. He’s Luke’s balance. He’s, weirdly enough, Luke’s saving grace for me as a reader. He brings out the humanity in Luke- our perpetual anti-hero. He’s such a nice guy that you can’t help, but love who he loves and care about what he cares about. He’s a wonderful hero and light in the dark world of The Red Order Series. I fell for this guy immediately.
I don’t hate him.
At all.
Lily
Dear God Almighty. Where do I begin?? I can’t even talk much about her without ruining the plotline… so I just leave you with this.
What. The. Heck.
What. Just. Happened.
I love her.
A lot.
The Story:
I don’t want to give much away. E.S. Carter has a fabulous way with throwing a plot twist here and there within her stories, and I don’t want to ruin it for anyone. It’s definitely a little different from the other two books in this series, in my opinion. But a good different. Maybe a change of pace is a better way to explain it. It’s dark, twisted, beautiful, grotesque, hilarious, serious, and everything in between. It’s a wonderful third installment to one of my favorite series out there.
And can I just say one thing?
Grim.
He wins. Like, honestly. He wins the witty and comedy award for this book.
He’s also my favorite character. So he had to have a shout out in my review.
I love him.
More than anyone.
That’s all.
So go! What are you waiting for? Pick up this latest installment to The Red Order Series. You won’t be disappointed!
