New Release: FRESCO NIGHTS

It’s hard to say why or how an author decides to write what she writes. My new book FRESCO NIGHTS came to me as I was mulling over the whole idea of dipping my toes into romantic suspense. Two characters appeared to me: a billionaire archaeologist and his bodyguard. These two guys aren’t based on any men I know. But after bringing them to life I wouldn’t mind knowing two men like them at all. Did I just say these male characters aren’t based on anyone I know? Well, maybe that’s not exactly true. Maybe they’re a compilation of men I have known. And loved.

Except for the billionaire part. I have never met a billionaire. No less dated one. Smart, kind and sexy, with sensitive eyes and a great sense of humor, that is Luke Trevanian and Norman Depardieu. Who wouldn’t want some of that? One is outgoing, athletic and charismatic, the definition of charm. He’s the billionaire. And an archaeologist to boot (Indiana Jones move over!) The other is enigmatic, very physical with muscles like iron, and a heart of gold. The bodyguard.

Enter Lucy Racine, museum illustrator. She’s a regular girl. She works for a big city museum in Toronto and dreams about adventure but never has any. Her life is pretty quiet and routine. So, what does she have that these two guys could possibly want?

My next challenge was to combine my love of suspense with romance and come up with a story that combined all of the things that interested me. I know. Big challenge because too many interests can be equally confusing. But I love archaeology. I love travelling to exotic places. And I recently became interested in the world of illicit antiquities trafficking. I wanted to include these things, too.

I was reading Archaeology Magazine one day, and saw an article about a catholic church in Positano that had ruins beneath it. There were frescos from a Roman villa buried by the same volcano that buried Pompeii. So I came up with a plot that would take me to the Amalfi Coast in Italy. I looked the place up on the Internet. And when I saw a photograph of a beautiful ancient castle keep that was renovated into a boutique hotel I knew I had the scene of my climax.

I hope this book sounds interesting to some of you. Right now you have a chance to win a free ebook copy from Goodreads! Giveaway dates run from Feb 14 - Mar 14. https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sh...
