“Hello,” she said.
Martin looked up from his coffee and smiled at the woman standing before him. Of around his age, she wore a bright red dress that seemed to add a shine to the grey in her hair. She didn’t seem familiar, but something about her intense stare prevented him from ignoring her.
“Hello,” he said. “Do I know you?” For a moment or two, his tiredness left him, and he appraised the woman, trying to place her.
“If you’re who I think you are, then yes,” the stranger said, her generous mouth creasing in a smile.
He took another sip of coffee and raised an eyebrow. “And who do you think I am?”
“Someone I used to go to school with.”
