The sharp pain in a writer's chest when a file suddenly disappears, or appears but is "unworkable," is like the pain you get when you are miles from home and your car starts making foreboding noises. Then, the elation after clicking on just the right spot on your screen and voila, there is your file, apes the joy of discovering the ominous noise was simple a twig in your wheel well. Ecco la vita.
