Books

Although I write primarily because it makes me happy to tell stories and to share them with readers who might also enjoy them, it wouldn't be a terrible thing to make some money from it, so I'm exploring the various ways I can drive sales and (jargon warning) monetize content on social media. I've just set up an Amazon Affiliates account, so I thought I might have a go at recommending books that I've enjoyed recently.

Here are the rules:
I'll only recommend books I think are worth reading
They'll be books I've just read and therefore quite possibly not new releases
I won't be paid for reviewing them so my opinions will be honest ones
If I've had a review copy, I'll say so
If you click through and buy them from Amazon, I'll be paid in small change and it'll cost you nothing extra

On that understanding, here's my first recommendation:

Diane Setterfield's story begins with a drowned girl who comes back to life, a pub full of story-tellers and a couple whose daughter was kidnapped two years before and never returned. I loved the richness of the language and the intertwining stories of the characters. I also enjoyed the story-tellers' changing accounts of unfolding events and the ever-present possibility of supernatural interventions, though it's left to the reader whether or not to be rational. This is a well-written, beautiful and moving book.
