Three days until lift off!

My Song's Curse will be available on Monday, August 31st! This has been a wild and fantastic road to travel.

I've been fielding some questions about My Song's Curse and myself, so I thought I'd share!

What's your book about?

It's about a siren named Lula who can use her voice to make anyone do what she wants, but it also makes her unable to form relationships, friendly or friendlier. No one argues with her, asks her about herself, or can feel anything for her beyond obsessed enthrallment.

It's also about Alexiares (Alex), the demigod of warding off wars. He's working to get the Council of old gods like Zeus and Ares to leave Olympus so the universe will progress. He wants Lula's help with that, but she's unaware that she's a major player in his plans.

Book one is how they meet, and how they navigate all the reasons they can't be together.

Sirens! So mermaids?

Nope! No mermaids here.

There are a ton of siren myths, and the Greek myth of bird women inspired me the most. Sometimes they had wings and resembled Harpies, or had a woman's head on the body of a bird. But the most common traits through all the legends was that sirens could captivate with their voice and they were close to their sisters. I took those myths and expanded, then placed them in a modern world.

Lula could topple mankind like another siren legend, but that's not her style.

Do they live happily ever after?

Eventually. Book one has a happy-for-now (HEA) ending.

How long did it take you to write My Song's Curse?

I wrote My Song's Curse in November 2017 during NaNoWriMo. I put down nearly 64k words in 30 days, and that made the first draft of book one and part of book two. After that, I paused and dove into edits for book one. They took about a year before I sent it out to query as I was a brand new writer and learning daily (still am!)

More Q&A tomorrow! If you have questions about My Songs Curse, me, or my future projects, email me or ask in the comment section.

Enjoy a book this weekend!

I'm reading The Hacker by Nancy Herkness and For a Few Demons More by Kim Harrison.
