DNF.

It’s just too dark. It’s much too dark for me. And I’ve never been a fan of superhero-gotham City stuff, I had’t realised that was the gist of the tale. The horror is pervasive and graphic and… It’s just not my bag. It’s a real shame, because I love Gaiman’s work, as a rule, and having never read any of The Sandman GNs before, I was really looking forward to it; I’d had it on pre-order from the day it went on Audible. There was some stunning imagery, extraordinary world-building; I loved the whole concept of Dream and Sandman’s journey’s through Dream; I made it halfway through, though it took a long time – that was when I realised I was getting very little pleasure from each episode and putting off moving on. In the end, I had to conclude it was just not for me, and returned it – not without some regret – to Audible, unfinished.
