Storms

I'm not going to talk about COVID-19 after my long absence from livejournal. Instead, I'd like to talk about weathering storms.

Some things aren't storms, but for an individual on the ground, they might as well be. You protect the people you love. You try to take care of things, even though you don't have the resources that you normally rely upon. You worry about whether or not you'll ever recover.

But storms have a way of reminding us of what really matters. And storms can be breath-taking, and awful in both the old and modern sense. They remind us that we can't control everything and anything. All we can control is ourselves, and do the best we can.

Sometimes our best isn't enough. But even if it isn't, it's still an expression of personal power, of creativity, intelligence, strength, and determination in the face of overwhelming forces.

And on that note, I'll let you know that I'm still writing. That's another overwhelming thing--starting a new series--where I can only control myself, while everything else throws lightning bolts into my brain, shatters the windows of my mind, and floods my consciousness. It's going to be okay, though. I see a way through, and I'm sure the light is not a train, or a UFO. It's the lonely call of a village horn, celebrating as the light of a new dawn is cast over the world.

Stay safe. Stay the course.
