What was THAT?!

We sat around a fire with friends on Saturday night, toasting marshmallows and looking at the stars; Mars shining brightly behind us, the moon growing in girth and luminosity in preparation for Halloween. I saw a fast-moving light and wondered idly if it was a satellite.

“No,” said our neighbor. “It’s not high enough, also, it isn’t moving fast enough.”

“Perhaps it is a meteor,” his wife commented.

“A meteor would move faster and in a sharper arc, not as if it is flying with a destination in mind,” I thought.

“It isn’t making any sound,” I said aloud, “No jet engine noise… but look!” I exclaimed.

What we saw could not be explained. Our neighbor had studied astronomy, I was an avid sky-watcher.

What could have been a con-trail seemed to be moving at a distance behind the moving light. It seemed like a long tail, with a number of twinkling, glowing lights moving from the north to south-east.

Well, was this a mystery or not?

It appears not to be according to this report: https://mauinow.com/2020/10/25/cluster-of-mysterious-lights-observed-across-maui/

Damn. No alien space invasion to save us from the election.

Sorry folks. Pony up, go and vote.
