Writing Update - FIRST DRAFT DONE!

Chapters 38-40 of the next "Perfectly Normal" fic are done. And that's *it*! The first draft is complete! OMG! Two years or more, I've been working on this. It's an epic length fic of over 300,000 words.

Is it perfect? Probably not. But it is *finished* and I am so glad to be almost done with this and able to move onto other projects.

Now... the editing begins! When I've got a good handful of chapters fully polished, including a check by my beta, I'll start publishing it. Due to its length I'm thinking of posting two chapters a week, which will still be over four months of fic updates (20 weeks). What do you think? One or two chapters a week?

BTW, you may be wondering if that means the series is complete. No, my intention is to - eventually - write one more fic to wrap up the series, at the end of Harry's 5th year.

Hannah Trower Either one or two chapters a week! This is seriously the best Christmas present I could hope for--on the edge of my seat for the first chapter! Now to rereading the first couple books and remembering what happened in this series versus another fanfic...

It's tough, with so many fics out there, hey! It's why I've got that bonus meta-fic "Have You Forgotten What Happened in this Series?" for those who just need a bit of a refresher on the details and don't want to spend days rereading the series. I'll be writing a summary for "Extraordinary Summer" and posting it a week or so before the new fic goes up.
"Unprecedented Competition" is coming soon! :D

mirabilos Wow, this is something you can be seriously proud of!

BrilliantLady BrilliantLady Thanks! I think two chapters a week is probably the way to go. Otherwise the fic will take most of a year to release and maybe that'd be kinda frustrating.

Bit of bad news, my beta isn't available to help. :( I don't blame her in the slightest; she has a job in healthcare and is understandably super busy right now. I'll either have to wing it on my own or hunt for a new beta, though!

If you need someone, I beta. My AO3 is OnceMoreWFeeling and I’ve done some editing work with RewriteParagraph

ladyofsilverdawn YAY! Three hundred thousand words! Epic accomplishment. Congrats on finishing the draft!

Grace Margaret r/fanfiction, Beta Bartering weekly thread, is a good place to find a beta if you're on reddit.

Congrats on finishing the first draft. That really is an epic length. Wow!

I'm going to vote for one chapter a week. That means less of a gap between this fic and the next one? I love this series so much. I'm really looking forward to this fic whatever update schedule you end up deciding on.

Eleanor Silvae I've been eagerly following this blog over the last year to track when the next book might come - congrats on finishing!

I managed to dig out a very old Goodreads account to ask roughly when you might start posting the next fic? I only ask as I've been slowly rereading the series after work and want to know how much I should pace an Extraordinary Summer this weekend! As an aside, I'm very happy to Britpick if needed although I know you've already had a great one for previous books. Thanks and really looking forward to reading the next chapter :)
