The hat trick

I recently learned that my third book, Proud to Play, will be launching in January--next week, in fact! This one was originally scheduled to be released in spring 2020, but it was postponed when the pandemic hit. I was all geared up and excited for kids to read Proud to Play. It was timely and relevant--about the experience of Canadian LGBTQ athletes in professional sports. The book's publication was meant coincide with the Olympics, Paralympics, Pride Month...but the pandemic changed the best laid plans.

Sports (and almost everything else) have taken a back seat to COVID-19, but it doesn't mean that issues of social justice, fairness and human rights are any less important now than they were before.

Maybe it's time we accept the "new normal" and start talking about other things again. Things like mental health, fitness, and the ability of everybody to feel comfortable being themselves. I hope Proud to Play puts these issues back on the table for discussion. I'm ready to talk about them...are you?
