Goals. August 8
I have wanted to be a full-time Author for years. I don't know if it was back in 2015 when my first book was released. Or when it was 2013 when I finally sat down and put pen to paper. But I just imagined what it would be like. I can stay home and write. I can collect a massive paycheck. I will be respected by my peers and applauded by my literary community.
And of course, reality looks a bit different.
Though I have reached my goals, being an Author is more work than I imagined and more stress than I could have anticipated. And looking back, I should have enjoyed the process instead of hurrying to the finish line.
I say all of this to remind you that though you may want your dream and your goal to start right now...maybe you need to check your motive.
In Mark Batterson's book "Whisper", he talks about our God-ordained dreams.
"If you want it too much, you might want it for the wrong reasons.
If you want something too much, it's often an indicator that you're not ready for it. Why? Because it's become an idol in your life. An idol is anything you desire more than God, and that includes God-given dreams and God-ordained callings.
Did you know that you can be doing the will of God and God can still oppose it? It's true. God opposes the proud. Attempting to do God's will in a spirit of pride is two steps forward, there steps back."
So, let us give our dreams to God. Keep focused on serving Him. And be content with the process as we stay humble and diligent.
If you need prayer for anything, let me know. I would love to pray for you!
