The Crown is not an inanimate object. It is a sentient crystalline entity with its own agenda.
The Jymaszarr Republic fear it and want it destroyed. The Mimtyrran Duchess, Allandria covets it for its power. Either way, as the last heir to the Crown, Simon and his sons would be killed.
