I don’t watch too many television shows because so much is to me, humdrum and trope infested.

But every once in a while, I come across something that really has me enjoying not only the story (With a minimum of eye-rolling) but some really good characters. Luther is one of those shows. I’ve just finished series three, and I’m looking forward to the watching both four and five.

John Luther is played by Idris Elba and Alice Morgan is played by Ruth Wilson.

I have to admit that I dragged my feet on watching the show thinking it was just another one of, those shows, and even thought of giving up after half-way through the first episode. Boy was I wrong and I’m glad I kept watching.

Both characters are highly intelligent and find a rather twisted kinship with each other. More attraction of the mind than body. I find I enjoy the episodes with Alice more. Not only is Alice a strong female character, but she’s also a well written strong female character. Something that is a rarity in television and movies.

Luther is more a Chaotic-Good character who does his best to uphold the law and stay out of trouble.

Alice at first comes off as Chaotic-evil, but as the episodes go on, she’s more Chaotic-Neutral, but her liking of Luther has her giving him a hand, even when he doesn’t want it. Then there is the occasional mob boss he threatens to sic Alice on if they don’t leave him alone.

Wish there were more shows like this out there.

Update on Series 5 of the show. Don’t bother with it. The writers unfortunately destroyed the show by killing off everyone that mattered while painting the main character as an A1 @$$. I want my 4 hours of life back.
