(New Book Release) - The Final Push

It's definitely been a while since I have made a post on Goodreads, but here I am working to change that.

There has been a great deal of progress that has happened with my work in progress, but also a great deal of setbacks. First, The Magician's Con had an original publishing date of November. About a week before I was going to hit publish, Mikee, whom I work with, and also shoot around all my writing ideas, brought up some valid points with my story. He made a good point, that it was a good story that was entertaining, but there were some flaws and also contradictions in the magic system and world building that needed to be addressed.

There were also a few things that I could do that would make for better storytelling and character development as a whole. That was extremely difficult to hear, especially since he was correct on pretty much every point. He even typed a detailed 11 pages going into what he loved and felt needed work, which was helpful.

From that I decided to postpone the publishing, and as an indie author, luckily that is easy to do. Mentally though this was a huge setback for me, thinking that I was done with my story, only to find out that I have another 2 rounds of rewrites. I felt like I had fallen short, and also rushed the rewrites of this book, and had given it to my editor prematurely.

That almost made it feel like the money spent for her to do this work was wasted in a way, cause she did do a good job, and really cleaned up my work, but now, some that she had done, would be changed, and I would add a whole new plethora of errors. It was stressful to say the least, but the biggest thing for me is making sure that my readers get their money and times worth. I need to deliver a high quality product especially when you are trying to build up a following and hopefully a fanbase.

The same issues happened with my first book though I was unable to catch them as well due to me writing that first book for an entirely different reason. I specifically wrote Legacy of the Highborn to help me shake this depression that had plagued me for the past 8 years. Surprisingly, it worked, and I was able to rise out of my depression and find that passion in life again, but the story had some flaws.

Mikee did save me though. He helped me define the magic system, and to really define the rules and costs of magic in my world. On top of that, he made sure that I held my third person limited POV for the entirety of the story, and the biggest thing was that my main character had changed as well. Originally he was supposed to start deaf and be healed in his later years so that he could know sign language with his brother for certain parts of the book.

The issue with that, is that it didn't quite fit, and the literal deafness was added as a way to explain them knowing sign language. That was the first thing I removed, and it did help the story a decent amount.

The next biggest thing was changing the start of the story. Yatsu, the main character, came up with his idea for the con a little too quickly and it was almost convenient to step up the story and move it forward. Instead, I did end up taking a step back, and rework about 7-8 chapters in the beginning to help build up to the conception of the con and to make it feel as though the idea came more naturally.

Overall this story is far more stronger than it originally was going to be. I am happy to announce that March 18th of 2022 those interested will be able to purchase my book. I've spent far more time than I previously thought I would writing this book, but here we are and I could not be happier with the product.
