My frustration with My Ride the Series

This will mostly likely have spoilers.
I almost gave up on this series. It isn’t a secret they had issues coming up with funds to make it, and after waiting for a while, I merely shrugged, removed it from my plan to watch list and moved on. Then we got news they were actually making it, but it would only be eight episodes. Again, I shrugged and re-added it to my list. After all, a short series is better than nothing.
When they announced casting, I didn’t know who Fluke Pongsakorn Wongpian (played Mork) was and definitely didn’t know who Fame Chawinroj Likitchareonsakul (played Tawan) was either. Even though Fame had been in a few things, they aren’t things I’ve watched. But there was something about the description of the drama that just called to me – well, I’m not gonna lie, Fluke’s dimples did too.
*blush*
I recognized Yoon Phusanu (Nott from YYY) and Nu Surasak (Teep from Lovely Writer) and that further endeared me to the series. Then it was finally released and the issues behind that almost made me walk away again.
First, they released it without english subtitles and with no way for international viewers to watch. I’m not entirely sure what GMM was thinking because they hadn’t done that before. And at that point, I was over it. I dropped it and went about my day. While others watched on streaming sites, my computer is kind of how I make a living, and I don’t trust these website not to cause virus etc.
I wasn’t going to risk it.
Fame plays TawanI’m not sure what happened next but suddenly, I was informed that Gagaoolala would cary it. I was happy. Resubscribed to the service and waited for it to drop. They dropped the first five episodes immediately, then it was suppsed to be every Friday until the conclusion.
That was another headache all over again.
Gagaoolala would put a release date for the next episode – most people would get it–people in Thailand but international viewers would still be locked out from seeing it. This means the spoilers would be everywhere and two days later, Gagaoolala would release it to inters.
Then another week, they kept moving the release date back and forth – I’m not sure who was running the ship for this series.
Then the actual series.
Let’s start with what I liked.
The main story was sweet. Fame and Fluke had amazing chemistry. All they had to do was look at each other and I melt. The way Mork looked at Tawan, was always there for him to the detriment of his own heart. *sighs* That’s 1000 percent a romance hero. The scenery. This drama made me message my friend from India going – “when i get my shit together, wanna go to Thailand with me?” She says yes but we have to stop in India first. I don’t see a downside here.
The friends – Mork’s friends. They are everything. Supportive, lovely, fools you can’t take anywhere – my kind of people.
The elderly gay couple – Mork’s uncles – we NEED more of them in a series. More older LGBT couples who aren’t miserable or hiding their relationship. They gave me LIFE!
Fluke’s dimples – do I really need to explain this?
Now, what I wasn’t a fan of.
Fluke – plays MorkThe Trans character – They started a story with a trans woman and then abandoned it. Like, bruh, we saw her. WE SAW HER! Why just drop it like
there’s nothing to see here
? That infuriated me. Tul Pakorn is right – BLs need to show all kinds of LGBT+ people and starting a story with beautiful goddess and then just pretend you didn’t do it, what was the point of that? The toxic vagina syndrome – seriously? Can we please use something else to move the plot along? We’ve done the toxic vagina storyline to death! It’s always a female that comes in and wrecks everything. Let’s move it along now, please.
The last misunderstanding – SERIOUSLY!? That could have been handled better. The fact Tawan didn’t tell Mork how he felt then got butt hurt when he saw Mork wiht Miss Thang makes no sense. If Mork knew how Tawan felt and had done that, then yes, I would agree with how that played out. But neither of these guys are mind readers. That whole thing was unecessary.
Time management – We could have done with 2 more episodes. The last ep was rushed. It was a good moment, but it was rushed. And I cringe to even imagine what mess only 8 episodes would have been. If they were pressed for budget and tmie, they could have cut out the Trans character storyline (since they did NOTHING with it) as well as the coffeeshop guy/female doctor storyline. I didn’t care much for those two because the female was a bit of a dits. That would have given them plenty more time to further develop Tawan/Mork as well as the secondary BL couple Toy/Boss. There was an ENTIRE backstory to Boss that they kind of just glossed over and explaind nothing.
Toy/Boss – More. There was entirely too little of them. I get they are secondary characters, but the fact that the writer startedout with this deep, indepth story then just let the bottom fall out of it – *sighs*
I did enjoy this series. I just wished certain things would have been better. A lot of people are going to complain about Por and the cheating, but that’s not any worse than most of the other stuff in other dramas like dubious concent, rape, physical and emotional abuse. That I understand was something used to move the story along. I have no issues with that.
I feel as if there could ahve been more and I am hestant to judge because this might be all they had the budget for.
But *sigh*
Yes I would recommend MY RIDE the series. I know Mork’s dimples can’t be the only reason I recommend int so–if you want something fluffy and super cute with very little stress. It’s a fun watch, I’m just in a mood, I guess.
