Elizabeth Strout does it again.

Lucy by the Sea (Amgash, #4) Lucy by the Sea by Elizabeth Strout

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Elizabeth Strout's latest chapter of Lucy Barton's story, sequestering in Maine during the pandemic with her ex-husband William, is at least as revealing, emotional, and riveting as the first three. Strout captures the trauma, fear, isolation, beauty, and humanity of all we have endured since 2020. Through Lucy's words, experiences, and journey, she paints an accurate picture of aging, family dynamics, and the importance of friendships. For me, the most truthful and important part of Lucy's journey is the universal truth that as much as we change and evolve in our lives--and maybe even live to write and tell our stories--we also are forever the emotional and physical product of the family we came from.
