The soundtrack of my life?
So here it is: my first goodreads blog post and I am not even thinking about books. I'm thinking about music. Well, that's not really true. I *am* thinking about music but it's more music I need when I am writing.
I don't know about the rest of you but I am a Spotify junkie. I've been using it for nearly three years now and I've set up playlists for the last three Nanowrimos, a general writig playlist that works for writing copy (my day job) and writing fiction (my early morning/night/weekend passion). I write stories inspired by songs. I've written a novel with the working title "A Little Night Music" that is inspired by all of my favorite songs. One of the main characters is a combination of John Taylor from Duran Duran, Bono and Damien Rice. Of course, he looks like Jonathan Rhys Meyers, but that's beside the point.
When I was in highschool I couldn't write without listening to my Walkman. Now I can't write without Spotify.
On Sunday, something awful happened--Spotify was down for a few hours and suddenly I couldn't write. I sat before my computer feeling compltely out of sorts. The site was down...where were all my playlists...? How could I listen to all my favorite music without having to shuffle CDs? I thought about simply using iTunes but I don't have much music there anymore. I had to make due with music already saved on my computer, and it wasn't much.
So now I wonder what I'll ever do if Spotify goes out of business. I need to make a hardcopy of my playlists. It took a lot of time to compile them. It would be awful to have to use precious writing time recompiling them.
Before I sign off, I thought I'd add Nanowrimo 2010's playlist. Hope you enjoy!
