I thought it’d be fun to show some early initial sketches for the main characters from waaay back when I first started work on the book.✏️

Creating characters is one of my favourite parts of the process. Drawing lots of variations, different poses and expressions. Figuring out how the characters will interact with each other and working out if they are a good fit for the story. I guess it’s a bit like an audition!

We were keen for Cat to look fun/cheeky and Dog to be grumpy with a long suffering look but didn’t want them to be obvious breeds of cat or dog.

I always feel a bit shy and weird about sharing rough/development work but I find it so interesting when others share theirs so thought I’d give it a go! :)
