A Winter at the White Queen

A compelling and entertaining page-turner by Author Denise Weimer, A Winter at the White Queen grabs hold and pulls you right in from the start! I read the entire book in three or four sittings and loved every minute. It held my attention all the way through.
Our main characters, Ellie and Lewis, wrap themselves around your heart. The mystery behind Lewis makes this book an exceptionally intriguing read filled with both mystery and suspense. I found myself on the edge of my seat throughout. Just when I thought I knew the answers and had figured everything out, something would happen and place me in doubt of my conclusions. You’ll want to keep reading and turning the pages to find out how everything turns out.
I loved how the author thoroughly researched the time period and setting. I could imagine everything as if I had traveled there, and indeed I feel as though I have traveled here during this time because of this lovely story. Since I’ve visited this area, I could imagine it even more, but readers who haven’t visited the area will love it. I kept learning new things about the Gilded Age even though I have researched it many times. I immensely enjoyed the descriptions and the way the research entered the pages and the lighthearted tone combined with depth in the characters, the plot, and themes. Two of my favorite characters in the story are Ada and Cora, but I won’t tell you more about these wonderful additions to the novel.
As for themes, I love the fact this book deals with a theme which centers around our insecurities. We all have a few of those which makes it a story anyone can relate to and find inspiration in both the outcome and many other points along the journey of this read.
I highly recommend this opening book for Romance at the Gilded Age Resorts series. Each book can be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone and in any order, but I’m sure readers will want to read them all. These books are sweet, clean, wholesome, and yet romantic. They also have a beautiful Christian message told in an interesting and inspirational way.
Don’t miss my contribution to the series and these others–:
Book 2, A Summer at Sagamore by Lisa M. Prysock (that’s moi!).
Book 3 is A Season at the Grand by Sherri Wilson Johnson.
And Book 4, A Summer at Thousand Island House by Susan G. Mathis.
Stay tuned for more books in this series … and check out our series page here.
