A place to put things
I’ve been thinking about social media and the places I like to post (these, incidentally, are my dogs).
Of all things, Twitter still suits me best. Not because of the culture, because that’s largely toxic at the macro scale – but because at the micro scale, it invites conversation. It still, for the most part, feels like me talking with friends and sharing things that are funny or that indulge our enthusiasms. Most often, I post about music I like.
I’m not a great fan of or regular visitor to Facebook, which just feels like an obligation these days. Or Instagram, which is all surface. Or LinkedIn, which just seems like a land of inauthentic smiles and fake overenthusiasm, passion and drive – with everyone on their best behaviour because they’re either repping their company or looking to leave it for a new gig.
I am not inclined to join TikTok.
I kind of like words to be the main thing. Pictures accompany. It might be unfashionable, but I might just be a blogger after all.
I’ve been looking for a place to put things. But I’ve had andrewdubber.com all along.
And while this might not be a smart way to maximise traffic or foster engagement, it’s possible that what I really want is just to get stuff down and out there so that I can potentially refer to it later in some shape or form.
So maybe let’s try that for a bit.
