I Love Coaching

During covid, I realized how much I enjoyed face-to-face coaching. Maybe that is why I spent my virtual time with coaching colleagues writing "The Instructional Coaching Handbook." As we say in the introduction "Coaching is a Conversation." We are believers in coaching being a work conversation that stems from a clear goal derived from classroom data.

When done well, coaching creates growth for both the teacher and the coach. The book is not another new model of coaching but a set of practical strategies coaches can use in real-time.

Every chapter begins the same way--with a strategy to "Start Small." For example, in the chapter on building efficacy, we assert the need for tenacity--the coach must use classroom data and teacher expertise to find just the right grain for the teacher to use to be successful and then cultivate that small piece to continue growth and success. This tenacity is exactly what the teacher will need to build success for students.
