Deadly Tides by Mary Keliikoa is the second book in the Misty Pines Series along the Oregan coast. The first was Hidden Pieces. Each book can be read as a stand-alone novel.

Returning is Sheriff Jax Turner, his ex Abby who is an FBI officer. They are still not able to get back together, they are both still mourning the loss of their child to cancer. Abby is also dealing with her mother who has Alzheimer's and gets away from the place where she lives.

Basically, this story is about two brothers, the surfer one seems to be missing and the other wants Jax to make a welfare check on his brother. Could someone be after his blueprints for a board? The outcome of the check is not great, there is a lot of blood and a foot turns up. Enter Margot, she was the nurse at the hospital where Jax and Abby's daughter was. Always ready with a kind word or deed. Always around. She has a penchant for the wrong men, or they are just not into her. What is her deal? Can she be a suspect?

Rachel is new to the department, along with her dog Koa, who comes to help Jax with the investigation and Jax would like to hire her to the department full-time. It was good to see another character introduced into the department. Plus having a dog that can sniff out whatever you want it to sniff out. Especially something dead.

So now it is up to Jax and Abby to get to the bottom of, number one, whose feet are turning up and why? It takes all of the resources that they both have at their disposal to solve this mystery. They also need to get their stuff together and get back together so they can grieve the loss of their daughter together.

This is another psychological thriller by a talented author. I intend to read more by Mary Keliikoa in the future, plus curious to see how Jax and Abby's relationship goes.
