I’m Broke This Year
I told my granddaughter that I was broke and she told me that I was at least one hundred years old and insisted I had money saved in an old persons bank
This kid kills me
So, I thought this poem was appropriate for today.
I’m Broke This Year
Ya, I’m sorry to say
I’ve got some bills I have to pay.
My phone, my rent
Half my money already spent.
My lights, my heat
Staying afloat is such a defeat.
Food bill and the car
Money can only go so far.
Household goods and clothes to wear
No money for Christmas, I’m broke this year.
Ya, I’m sorry to say
No gifts are heading your way.
Toilet broke, my car died
With each bill, a tear I cried.
Taxes and health insurance
Being broke, no reassurance.
Copays and prescriptions
And Christmas wish predictions.
School vacation and now I need daycare
No money for Christmas, I’m broke this year.
Ya, I’m sorry to say
There’s so much more to Christmas day.
It’s not about gift buying
Over stressed, broke and crying.
Rushing to late night stores
Busting through closing doors.
Last of your dollars being spent
Unpaid bills is a no rule bent.
I didn’t stress out, my pockets are empty, I swear
No money for Christmas, I’m broke this year.
Ya, I’m sorry to say
The true meaning, if I may.
The family in your heart
No matter time apart.
The food on your table
Birth of Jesus in a stable.
The life you are given
In a world we are living.
No money for Christmas, I’m broke this year
May be no gifts, but there will be holiday cheer.
