HAPPY NEW YEAR
It’s so difficult to write one of these things in a New Year, without something horribly cliché. Although, I am one of those people who are seeking to do the basic resolutions with my 365 day refresh.
Lose weight? Sure.
Spend more time swimming, walking and on my exercise bike?
Absolutely! Find inner peace, clarity, enlightenment and all the buzz words?
Ahh that one is going to take longer.
For those close to me and have been following for a while, will know that my second half of 2024 unfortunately resulted in my marriage breaking down unexpectedly. Predictably, my writing and work ethic suffered and during the time I should have been sorting through BETA feedback for Within the Woods, I took a lot of time out to focus on my situation and find a way to move forwards whilst everything imploded around me. Although nothing is perfect or certain in these days and there are still many changes to come for me personally, I can find the bandwidth again in my brain to being thinking about Terin and the others. In a perfect world, I could have thrown myself into my work and ignored everything else completely around me, but I’d have done myself a disservice in ignoring my own mental and emotional health. I’m sure Terin understands my need to ignore her for a bit. I’m sure. Hopefully. She’s so demanding!
Despite what the looming year will hold for me, it’s going to be one of business and growth. I will be focussing on bigger goals, stricter schedules and prioritising myself – which I think will be the most difficult thing to achieve.
But here we go; welcome 2025!
Let’s breakdown my movements:
What am I working on?
• Within the Woods – Book 2 of The Chrysalis Saga: I’m currently combing through BETA reader feedback to put together my third draft. I’d originally hoped to release this last quarter of 2024, but I’m hoping for Q2 2025 release. More on this soon.
• The Cat Among the Crows - Book 2.5 of The Chrysalis Saga: I have not officially released this title across any social media just yet. I’m hoping to aim for Q3 2025, but I fear that might be too ambitious. We shall see!
Upcoming projects
• How Much is This Going to Cost Me? – A semi-satire ongoing look into my time working within the Veterinary industry.
• Book 3 of The Chrysalis Saga
• Book 3.5 of The Chrysalis Saga
What am I reading?
Fiction
Daydream
By Hannah Grace.
The third book in the Maple Hills series in which we centre around Henry and his new love interest. Having read the first two, I fell in love with some of these characters and to return to the series feels like I’m being welcomed home into a small American town that I’ll never have the pleasure of experiencing!
Non-fiction
The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment
By Eckhart Tolle.
I’m a chronic worrier so this was recommended to me by my uncle. Although self-help books are generally not my forte and something I really struggle to digest, there are some really great quotes in here that I’m highlighting as I go along (GASP, DEFILING A BOOK?! I know.) There is definitely something to be said about focusing on the present and enjoying the feeling of Now, rather than living in a different timeline altogether.
My TBR pile is now becoming dangerously big, looming over my bedside table while I’m trying to sleep and I don’t help myself by adding more on purchase sprees. If you have any recommendations – please let me know!
Would you like to become an Alpha/BETA reader?
I only have a few slots for each and these get snapped up pretty quickly so please let me know if you’re interested or not. My current feedback requirements are:
• You must be able to read to deadlines. I will often give my A/B readers a month minimum to read and send thoughts back to me. I will be lenient if emergency situations happen as we’re all human but repetitive failure to meet deadlines will result in your spot being refilled.
• You must have access to Microsoft Word, Wordpad, etc. or any other software programs that will allow you to attach notes to the text as this makes it easier for me to track.
• You must be trustworthy, reliable and able to adhere to secrecy on any project.
Are you keeping up to date on socials?
I tend to hang out at all these cool places. Sometimes I fall into a meme-hole and sometimes I’ll stream the odd game on Twitch in my spare time. Come hang out and say hi!
