To Bessie

 To Bess, my warrior Sister

You might not understand.

Or see.

But I love you.

Thank you for looking out for me.

For speaking up.

For inviting me to sing.

Thank you for your guidance.

For you warm glow.

I'm sorry I am not always with you, sorry that sometimes you have to carry a heavy load.

I'm sorry sometimes, that it looks like I don't care.

When I really do.

Thank you for always inviting me to sing.

Thank you for your bravery.

For showing me that a woman exist, that cares for so many.

Thank you for teaching me so many things.

For taking on darkness, that wasn't yours.

For saving my life, time and time again.

For being sunshine in the darkness.

For laughter in the sadness.

Thank you for staying behind so many times, to help me, when I didn't know what to do.

Thank you.

Thank you for being patient with me.

Thank you for speaking the truth.

Thank you for giving me so much, when you could have flown away a long time ago.

Thank you for loving, thank you having boundaries.

Thank you for teaching me to value myself, and others. To see that it's not selfish to love oneself.

Thank for giving me so much.

That I worry you don't know, I worry that you might have given me so much of your light, you might forget.

And so I want you to remember.

How big your heart is.

How beautiful your soul.

You are never alone.

Ever.

God is there.

Always.

Calling out.

In every way.

And you have been such a voice, to me.

And I wish I could've listened better.

Followed your example better.

Served better.

Loved better.

Thank you for keeping me alive.

So many times.

Thank you for battling for me.

I'm not sure exactly how to say it. Or how to show you.

But sometimes when I write here.

You remember.

And sometimes when I write here, you say things, only that have been said in this sacred space.

As if some part of you has already written this, for you.

Please know, and remember, I have always thought you a queen.

Someone who has stayed behind to show me, that too. For without you, I might have never known my own heaven. Here, and the beautiful harmony we make together. When we love each other, equally, and God. We become a bridge for everyone.

 Thank you.

So I would hope, that if If you forget that I love you.

Some part of you, somehow finds this, and reads it.

Remember.

I do.

Love you very much

So very much.
