In the Thick of It

Well, I have written a lot of books in my life. Tons and tons of stories. My mom has a filing cabinet somewhere full of hand-written stories by little Hannah. When I was younger it was my dream to become a best-selling author.

But then, well, other things happened. I got into theater and music and that took up a lot of my time. I learned how to speak Spanish, I went to college, I graduated in something completely unrelated to writing (Latin American Studies). I went on an 18-month mission to Honduras, got married, and had four kids. So, writing kind of got put on the back burner.

I never stopped writing or telling stories. I wrote lots of stories for my kids and I'd always have a novel here and there that I was working on. But the idea of publishing was far from my mind.

Until it wasn't. Last year I decided it was finally time. Finally time to see if anyone besides my #1 fan (my mom) and my unwavering support squad (my kids) liked my stories. I published my first children's novel in October last year.

I mean, guys, I'm almost 40. It is time.

Now, I am in the thick of it. I'm not wasting any more days, years, hours. I'm telling all the stories. I'm writing them down and I'm getting them out there. But seriously, it's a lot of work.

Writing and editing and formatting and drawing covers. Giving away copies of my book, contacting bloggers and other authors and local indie bookstores, all with 4 kids in tow. Telling anyone and everyone I meet and know that they should go buy my book. Only to find out the 6 copies I sold the other day were all bought by my mother. (As my 9-year-old would say, "womp womp")

(If you are reading this, which I know you will, I love you, Mom. <3)

Anyway, this is just a little update to let you know. I'm in the thick of it. And I am loving it. And I'm praying that something will come of it, because I would love for people to read and love my books. Or at least read them. :)
