Why I Wrote Alchemy of Motherhood

Hi friends,

I’m Casey Keen. Author, maternal health advocate, and someone who’s still learning to hold both the beauty and the heartbreak of becoming a mother.

I wanted my first blog post here on Goodreads to be more than a "book announcement." Alchemy of Motherhood isn't just a memoir. It is a reflection. A call to pay attention to what so often gets hidden behind baby showers and curated Instagram feeds.

I wrote this book because I needed it, and because so many other women told me, quietly, painfully, that they needed it too.

My story begins in the hospital room where I gave birth and experienced birth trauma. It stretches into the sleepless nights, the mental health spirals, the quiet resentment I didn’t know how to name, and the joy that felt so complicated. It explores how systemic failures in healthcare can lead to traumatic births, and how the postpartum period is often endured in silence.

This memoir is personal, but it’s not just mine. It's for the woman who walked out of the hospital changed and never told anyone why.

The mother who thought something was wrong with her because no one talked about this part.

The partners, friends, and care providers who want to better understand what birth trauma and postpartum really look like.

As we get closer to the April 2026 release, I’ll be sharing more here...behind-the-scenes moments, favorite reads, thoughts on maternal mental health, and a few things I’ve learned (the hard way) about healing and storytelling.

If you’ve ever felt unseen in your motherhood journey, I hope this reminds you: you’re not alone. You were never meant to do this alone.

More soon.

With warmth and solidarity,
Casey
