It took me about a year and a half to figure this out, but if you respond here, the person to whom you are responding will not see it; GR only notifies YOU of comments on your profile. To ensure whomever you are replying to sees your response, go on over to their profile and leave it there. Rather illogical and counter-intuitive, isn't it?
