Many have been citing this quote in relation to the sociopolitical climate in the U.S. under Donald Trump:
“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”—George Orwell, 1984
But, there’s a reason it doesn’t actually apply to current events.
MAGA people put “we the people” stickers on their cars while watching masked agents ignore our Constitutional rights. They wave “don’t tread on me” flags as they cheer an administration that treads on already struggling citizens and anyone who voices opposition. They say they hate pedophiles, but Trump’s administration is now the only thing keeping the Epstein docs from being released. (Plus, he’s now considering a pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell.)They want to “make America great again” yet support policies that hurt us globally and domestically, politically and financially. They wear shirts that say “lions not sheep” while blindly following a weak conman who told them he was a hero. It’s not hypocrisy because I they clearly don’t grasp that concept. So, MAGA must not understand what words mean because they say one thing while applauding the opposite.
And even if they did understand, it wouldn’t matter. They like being led, they like being told what to think. They never let factual evidence get in the way of their blissful subservience to a literal fascist regime.
How do I know this? I believe the evidence of my eyes and ears.
