Can we do away with the pity posts?

Because I’m really getting sick of them.

Yesterday i was doom scrolling on Tiktok ( don’t judge!) and came upon 4 author posts who’d each done a pity post.

Don’t know what those are? Let me es’plain, Lucy.

THese are the people who video themselves either crying ( crockodile tears) or bemoaning the fact that they have no book sales, or their sales are way down and they don’t know if they can keep doing this and they are considering quitting writing altogether if people don’t start buying their books. NOw, these same 4 content creator authors I remember vividly doing the same types of posts LAST YEAR.

Yup.

So, because this pisses me off so much, I did my own post saying to stop with the pity posts. No sales are a fact of life in publishing, especially indie publishing. This is not an easy industry. Grow a set, people.

You not only make yourselves look foolish when you do these posts just to garner attention and in the hope someone will take pity on you and buy a book, you also make the rest of us who understand the industry and don’t make veiled threats about giving up just because we didn’t sell a book look bad, too.

And that just pisses me off.

So knock it off.

Okay, soapbox put away now.
