READ ME

I am trepidatiously excited to announce that I am working on, and simultaneously releasing, a new serialised novel during 2026.

READ ME: hic sunt arbores – the new serialised novel by Gabriel Hemery

During 2026 I am taking the brave step of starting to write a new full-length novel. From experience I know this is a significant undertaking in its own right, yet for this new novel I will be releasing it in sections on my Substack, live in the company of subscribers.

The book’s title is Read Me with the subtitle hic sunt arbores.

Motivation

This might mean the writing is a little raw in places, and the plot may yet evolve in unexpected ways, but thats the challenge! You might ask why I would put myself through this? The answer is simple really. Yes, it will be a significant challenge, but once committed I wont shirk from it, as I am not a quitter (something I have in common with the heroine of the story). I also hope to have the support of you, lovely subscriber, to urge me on. Perhaps you can influence the plot, critique my writing, ask difficult questions. Some of your life-force might mingle with mine. Together, we may just create something precious, exciting; compelling even.

A few book details

So whats the plot? Those in the writing community often talk of two types of writers: plotters and pantsers. I very much belong in the second category, meaning flying by the seat of my pants. The big idea is clear (and exciting) in my imagination, the characters are half-formed, even a few subplots are emerging in my mind, but make no mistake, I will be writing organically. This suits my writing style best, but I hope will also make a better experience for my subscribers who will be able to genuinely interact with me as I write. Nothing is predetermined, anything (within reason) could happen!

Book type: commercial adult fiction
Genre: ecofiction (speculative fiction)
Themes: dystopian and utopian
Sub-themes: environmental change, nature, trees, love, adventure

How the serialisation works

Only paid subscribers to my Substack can read the novel in full.

Portions of the book will be published in sequence, shared within a section on my Substack with the novels title: READ ME. That means you can subscribe just to this novel and not to my main Substack, if thats what you prefer. You will find READ ME as a dedicated tab at the top of my Substack page.

If you are a paid subscriber to my main Substack, then you can gain full access to the READ ME novel without subscribing again.

Paid subscribers will receive every portion as its published direct by email and can also access the entire novel by exploring the READ ME novel section in Substack.

Paid subscribers have the ability to discuss the novel with me and other readers.

Finally, if you are one of my wonderful Founder Members, you will be listed by name (unless you prefer to remain anonymous) as a Book Patron in any book when (if) it is published.
