Here Be Trees
I have launched a Substack for my creative environmental writing. I realise that I have a lively website here at gabrielhemery.com, but I want to release and share more of my nature writing to a wider readership, and I believe Substack is a good option.

I wouldn’t normally do this, but as I have only just launched my Substack, I copy below my first post as it explains my ideas.
From my first Substack post, 6th December 2025I should provide a warning to the faint-hearted. This is wild, untamed territory where humans lack knowledge, control and influence, featuring trees and nature with remarkable excess.
The creationIve been blogging since 2010, but my website today has become a space mainly to promote my published books and photography projects. Ive been wondering about taking this tentative step for some time, hesitating with a foot just outside the forest gate, yet now at last the time seems right. You see, Im chasing a dream as it bounds into the trees, cutting through shards of brilliant light, disturbing a slumbering woodcock in a whirlwind of leaves and feathers. My pen is drawn, the tension trembling, as I become the arrow, aiming for the heart of the subject matter. Yes, its true, I am unleashing my full creative self, immersing myself in environmental fiction, soaking my weary limbs practicing shinrin yoku while sharing my love of trees with the world.
Dont be trepidatious, I will be your guideCare to join me on this silvan foray? I invite you to boot-up, and get in step as we begin our journey together. After all, Id appreciate your company, your camaraderie and encouragement.
I will be sharing an extensive catalogue of creative writing from my published books, including short stories, serialised full novels and more. Paid subscribers will have access to it all.
Thats not all. I am embarking on a new novel, which I will be sharing in regular instalments, right here, among the sunny glade of Substack.
What to expectIf you have a fear of trees, then this is not the space for you. On the other hand, if you hold a little appreciation in your heart for the life they give you and me, then this might just be your perfect natural haven in a frantic world.
Ill be posting regularly, probably weekly, once I get into my stride. Free Subscribers will be able to enjoy extracts, short pieces and occasional news. Paid Subscribers will receive:
