I don't like Amazon. I especially don't like buying books from Amazon.
It's probably not necessary for me to tell you why I don't like Amazon; you've heard it before. In fact, it's not improbable that you feel the same way.
When I started a small press last year, I wondered whether it would be financially feasible to simply not sell through Amazon. I decided I ought to try.
Turns out I can't, really. My aggregator doesn't let me opt out; if I want Frolic Press editions distributed widely, that includes Amazon.
Now, I did my research. As I understand it, the ebook format accounts for about 18-20% of "units" sold by publishers. Of that, something like 70-80% of ebooks sold are Kindle editions. (I trust you'll correct me if you know my numbers to be wrong.)
So, now I reckon that a kind of compromise, for now, would be to sell the ebooks through KDP (which pays a bigger share and is helpful in that regard to a fledgling press) while encouraging folks who want the real tangible item to buy from Bookshop.org or their local independent bookstore.
In the near future, I'll figure out how to sell ebooks directly.
So, here's my new (e)book, Blood Garlands, at Amazon:
Blood Garlands
The paperback edition (5.25x7" on groundwood) will be available April 21, wherever books are sold.
